On 14-16 October 2019 the first EuroPris Real Estate Workshop took place in the historic City of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The Workshop was a full two-day event and was kindly hosted by the Slovenian Prison Service. The Workshop was exclusively open for the Public Sector, Academics and NGO’s from European countries.
The programme contained a number of presentations on different areas of prison real estate and included a focus on ‘Designing for Rehabilitation’ which was the subject of the latest report from the Real Estate Expert Group.
The Ljubljana Workshop provided an opportunity to share the work undertaken by the group on Prison Design, Public Private Partnerships, Designing for Rehabilitation together with the forthcoming report on the Design of Finland’s Women’s prison. The programme incIuded a module led by the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) on their publication on prison planning and design (Towards Humane Prisons, 2018) and will include an examination of the findings generated from the latest ‘Designing for Rehabilitation’ report. In addition there was also opportunity to explore topics of interest raised by member countries at the EuroPris Annual General Meeting alongside those identified for further examination by the Real Estate & Logistics expert group.

Two prison visit was offered to participants on Monday 14 October as well as Thursday 17 October.
Participants could choose to visit Ljubljana and/or IG Prison. During both visit prison architects were also available to answer any of the participants’ questions.
Please note that you can choose to visit only one of the prisons per day. If you want to visit both prisons you will have to register for prison visit on Monday as well as Thursday.
The workshop was only open for the Public Sector, Academics and NGO’s from European countries.

City Hotel Ljubljana is fully booked by now. Participants should look for other hotels in the area.
EuroPris members can request reimbursement for actual travel and accommodation costs.
The reimbursement is limited to 500 Euro per EuroPris member and can be requested for one or more experts as long as it does not exceed the 500 Euro limit per member jurisdiction (not per participant).
In 2019, the reimbursement is limited to a maximum of two events per EuroPris member per year.
